Description
The bottle bush (Callistemon Citrinus) is an Australian native, a beautiful evergreen woody shrub with bright red cylindrical shaped flowers that resembles a traditional bottle brush. The flowers with its long, bristly red spikes appear early summer to autumn and are a great attraction for nectar feeding wild life including insects, butterflies and sun birds. Plants usually reaches 4 meters and grow in a variety of soils, but do particularly well in damp or wet conditions in a sunny spot. Plants respond well to hard pruning and makes a beautiful dense hedge.
Whats more, the flowers are edible, and can be consumed fresh, added to salads, cooked or made into jellies, jams, and the most incredible syrup you've ever tasted.
